MIND

Restoring Hormonal Harmony

Fatigue, mood swings, sleepless nights, and lost libido are often signs that your hormones need attention. At MHB, we're experts in helping women identify and treat hormonal imbalances, restoring the balance your body needs to function at its best.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

"It feels like I'm at war with my own body."

We hear this from so many women who walk through our doors. Perhaps you recognize yourself in some of these experiences:

  • Your mood swings feel unpredictable, one moment you're fine, the next you're irritable or tearful for no clear reason
  • Your energy has disappeared, replaced by a persistent fatigue that sleep doesn't seem to fix
  • Your libido has quietly slipped away, creating distance in your intimate relationships
  • Your body feels unfamiliar, weight clings stubbornly despite your best efforts
  • Sleep has become elusive, leaving you exhausted and foggy during the day
  • You just feel off, like your body isn't quite cooperating anymore

Our providers at MHB are experts in hormonal rebalance. We regularly screen and treat patients for deficiencies using comprehensive blood testing. If you are dealing with any of the symptoms above, don’t suffer in silence

What is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy (BHT)?

Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones your body naturally produces: estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone. They're used to treat symptoms of menopause and hormonal imbalance.

Unlike synthetic hormones, bioidentical hormones are derived from natural plant sources, specifically yams. Because they're molecularly identical to your own hormones, your body recognizes and processes them just as it would the hormones it made on its own.

Many conventional practitioners aren't trained in bioidentical hormone therapy, or they may still rely on outdated research. At MHB, hormone optimization is our specialty. We stay current with the latest research and have years of experience helping women navigate this journey successfully.

Is BHT FDA-approved?

While compounded bioidentical hormones aren't FDA approved, it’s not for the reasons you might think. Rather than a safety issue, it’s more about individualization and dosing.

Every woman's body absorbs and metabolizes hormones differently based on her unique metabolism, body composition, and health history. The FDA approval process requires standardized dosing, but with hormone therapy, one size definitely does not fit all. The individual ingredients we use, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, are all FDA-approved in single-agent commercial products. We're simply customizing the combination and dosing to match your specific needs.

Testosterone: The Missing Piece for Women

Testosterone plays a vital role in women's energy, libido, and muscle and bone health, yet it's one of the most overlooked hormones in women's care. Levels begin declining as early as the 30s, and by menopause, many women are running on empty without ever knowing why.

Low testosterone can manifest as persistent fatigue and a loss of drive, a libido that has quietly faded, and a gradual decline in muscle tone and bone strength that makes staying active feel like an uphill battle. At MHB, we test and optimize testosterone as part of every comprehensive BHRT plan, so nothing gets missed and nothing gets left untreated.

What BHRT Can Do for You

Schedule an Appointment
Relief from menopausal symptoms
Hot flashes that disrupt your day (and night), night sweats that soak your sheets, vaginal dryness that affects intimacy, BHRT can address all of these. Many women notice improvements within weeks, though everyone's timeline is unique.
Better sleep, better mood
When your hormones are balanced, sleep often improves dramatically. And with better sleep comes better mood, clearer thinking, and more energy to enjoy your life.
Protection for your bones
Estrogen is your skeleton's best friend. As levels decline during menopause, bone density can drop rapidly, increasing fracture risk. Replacing estrogen helps maintain strong, healthy bones well into your later years.
Heart health support
Research shows that when started at the right time, typically within 10 years of menopause, hormone therapy may actually support cardiovascular health. We use transdermal delivery (patches, creams, gels) when appropriate, which doesn't carry the same clotting risks as oral estrogen.
Cognitive clarity
Many women experience frustrating brain fog, and some studies suggest that bioidentical hormones, when started during the menopausal transition, may help maintain cognitive sharpness and mental clarity.
Muscle Strength & Body Composition
Hormones play a direct role in your body's ability to build and maintain lean muscle mass. As levels decline, muscles weaken and body fat, particularly around the abdomen, tends to increase. Optimizing your hormones supports a stronger, leaner body and makes your efforts in the gym actually pay off.

Is There a Breast Cancer Risk?

This is understandably one of the biggest concerns women have about hormone therapy. Here's what the research shows:

The type of progesterone you use makes a big difference. The bioidentical progesterone we prescribe at MHB has a much better safety profile than the synthetic version (called Provera) that was used in the studies that scared everyone back in 2002. In fact, some research shows no increase in breast cancer risk at all when bioidentical estrogen and progesterone are used together.

Even in studies that showed a small increase in risk, we're talking about very few cases.

At MHB, we'll look at your personal risk factors, including your family history, your breast density, and your overall health, and have an honest conversation about what makes sense for you specifically. We monitor you carefully throughout treatment and adjust our approach as needed.

Despite the reassuring evidence, we always recommend routine follow-up with your GYN or PCP for routine testing such as PAP smears and mammograms.

Peptide Therapy

Peptides are an exciting new treatment option aimed at optimizing the body’s natural hormone production systems. While hormone pellets are one of the most commonly targeted therapies for women who are out of balance and can directly replace deficient hormones in the blood, peptides instead act as “signals” to tell your body to produce more hormones on its own.

At MHB, we offer two peptide therapy options focused on enhancing growth hormone (GH) production: Sermorelin and Pentadeca Arginate (PDA). We strive to match patients with the most effective treatment option based on goals, target challenges, and underlying medical conditions.

There are many benefits attributed to peptide therapy, including:

  • Natural boost to hormone production
  • Improved body composition (less fat, more lean muscle)
  • Better sleep quality
  • Enhanced energy and vitality
  • Improved mood and mental clarity
  • Increased libido
  • Reduced joint and soft tissue pain

Peptides are prescribed through an affordable program where medications are shipped directly to your home.

Nutrition & Lifestyle

At MHB, we believe in taking a holistic approach to all of our patient care. In addition to hormonal balance, we help patients focus on improving their nutrition, exercise, and sleep habits, which are all pillars of preventive medicine.

Lifestyle stress and chronic dieting can significantly disrupt body hormones and lead to poor digestion, fatigue, and weight gain. Many patients come to us stuck in this cycle of restrictive food rules, “cheating”, guilt, and frustration. We help them break out of this fixed mindset and repair their relationship with food. We can help you address:

  • High blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Blood sugar concerns or prediabetes
  • Unwanted weight changes
  • Digestive issues and acid reflux
  • Nutritional support for athletic performance
  • Eating patterns that may be disrupting your hormones

Metabolic Testing with PNOĒ

Understanding how your body burns fuel is one of the most powerful tools we have for optimizing your health. PNOĒ is a clinical-grade breath analysis test that measures your metabolism at rest and during exercise, revealing exactly how your body uses oxygen, burns calories, and responds to physical exertion. With this data, we can fine-tune your nutrition, exercise, and hormone optimization plans with a level of precision that guesswork simply can't match.

Heart

Protecting Your Most Vital Organ

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. Yet many women don't realize they're at risk until it's too late.

At MHB, prevention is our priority. Under the care of Harvard-trained cardiologist Dr. Evan Appelbaum, we offer comprehensive cardiac care designed specifically for women's unique cardiovascular needs.

Comprehensive Cardiac Assessment

Before menopause, your hormones offer significant cardiovascular protection. After menopause, that protection diminishes, and your risk begins to climb. This is why we emphasize early screening and proactive management, which can catch problems when they're small and easiest to address. Every woman's program begins with a thorough evaluation, including:

Cardiac stress testing allows us to see how your heart responds to physical exertion in a safe, controlled environment. This helps us design exercise programs tailored to your fitness level while identifying any concerning patterns early.

Cardiac and vascular ultrasound provides real-time imaging of your heart and blood vessels, allowing us to detect plaques, calcifications, or structural issues before they become problems.

Managing Blood Pressure & Cholesterol

Managing risk starts with controlling the factors that contribute to further development of cardiac issues. Two of those primary contributors are blood pressure and cholesterol. At MHB, we take an “all-hands-on-deck” approach, supporting our patients with targeted prescription medications and routine monitoring as well as intensive nutrition and lifestyle therapy, so that you can feel empowered to make choices that support your health goals.

Heart Rhythm Concerns

Does your heart sometimes feel like it's skipping beats, fluttering, or racing? These sensations can be frightening, especially when they happen unexpectedly.

Arrhythmia is an umbrella term for issues involving irregular or abnormal heartbeats. One such condition is atrial fibrillation, where the different chambers of the heart muscle don’t quite sync up during beats to move blood through the heart efficiently. Arrhythmias can have a variety of different driving forces, so diagnosing the specific cause is critical to building an effective long-term treatment plan.

Signs you should get evaluated:

  • Frequent sensation of skipped or extra heartbeats
  • Fluttering feeling in your chest
  • Rapid or pounding heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath or dizziness
  • Chest discomfort or unusual fatigue

We use proven diagnostic tools including EKG, stress testing, and wearable heart monitors, which you can use at home to capture what's happening during your daily activities. Once we understand your specific situation, we'll create a management plan that brings you peace of mind and protection.

Strength, Vitality, and Confidence From the Inside Out

True wellness is about building a strong, healthy foundation that supports you for decades to come. From preventing osteoporosis to strengthening your pelvic floor, we offer evidence-based treatments that help you maintain vitality, strength, and independence as you age.

Vitamins You Can Trust

While we believe in a "food first" approach, we also recognize that strategic supplementation can play an important role in supporting your health, particularly for cardiovascular protection, brain health, and reducing inflammation.

We partner exclusively with Ortho Molecular, a pharmaceutical-grade supplement company that meets the highest quality standards. No fillers, no questionable ingredients, just pure, highly absorbable nutrients. For our female patients, we most commonly recommend:

  • Omega-3 fish oils for heart and brain health
  • Vitamin D + K2 for bone strength, immune function, and mood support

Bone Health

Osteoporosis often develops silently over the years, only announcing itself through a devastating fracture. As estrogen declines after menopause, bones lose density rapidly—making prevention crucial. We utilize DXA scanning, the gold standard for bone density assessment, to:

  • Establish your baseline bone health
  • Monitor changes year over year
  • Identify areas of concern early
  • Create targeted treatment plans when needed

This screening is covered by insurance annually for women over 65 or younger women with risk factors. Don't wait for a fracture to discover you have osteoporosis.

Body Composition

Your bathroom scale tells you only part of the story. Body composition, which is the ratio of muscle to fat in your body, is a far more meaningful indicator of metabolic health and disease risk. Our DXA technology provides a detailed map of your body, showing:

This information is invaluable for tracking real progress, especially when the scale isn't moving, but your body is changing for the better.

Cosmetic Botox

The way you look affects the way you feel, and feeling confident in your appearance is part of whole-person wellness. At MHB, we offer cosmetic Botox treatments administered by experienced medical professionals in a safe, clinical setting.

Botox works by temporarily relaxing the small facial muscles responsible for repetitive expressions, smoothing the lines and wrinkles that form over time. Results are subtle, natural-looking, and remarkably effective.

At MHB, we believe in enhancement, not transformation. Our goal is to help you look like a well-rested, vibrant version of yourself, not someone different.

EMSELLA: Transformative Pelvic Floor Therapy

Urinary incontinence affects millions of women, yet many suffer in silence, believing it's just "part of getting older" or an inevitable consequence of childbirth. It doesn't have to be.

The BTL EMSELLA chair is a game-changer for pelvic floor health. You simply sit fully clothed in a specialized chair while electromagnetic technology stimulates thousands of pelvic floor contractions, the equivalent of months of Kegel exercises in a single 28-minute session. What EMSELLA can help with:

  • Stress incontinence (leaking with coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercise)
  • Urge incontinence (sudden, strong need to urinate)
  • Pelvic floor weakness after childbirth
  • Enhanced sexual sensation and satisfaction

Most patients complete a series of 6 sessions over 3 weeks, with many noticing improvements after just 2-3 treatments.

EMSCULPT NEO: Sculpt Your Body Without Surgery

The EMSCULPT NEO combines two powerful technologies: high-intensity electromagnetic energy and radiofrequency heating. Together, these build muscle and reduce fat.

Here's how it works: the electromagnetic pulses trigger supramaximal muscle contractions (far more intense than you could achieve voluntarily), forcing muscles to adapt by building new tissue. Meanwhile, the radiofrequency heating targets and destroys fat cells. The result is a more sculpted, toned appearance.

EMSCULPT NEO is FDA-approved for:

  • Abdomen (one 30-minute session = 20,000 crunches)
  • Buttocks
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Calves

This is body contouring for women who are already at or near their goal weight but want to enhance definition and strength in specific areas.
